These cones are not only large, but in nature they come from a pine tree, also known as Pinus Pinea or Italian stone pine. These decorative pine cones are open and reveal their empty seed heads. Inside were the popular pine nuts, which are laboriously harvested and are known to us as a sweet treat and are also used in the famous green pesto alla genovese.

However, these large pine cones are often used as natural decorations in funeral floristry - the decorative pine cones are considered symbols of immortality and resurrection. The pine cones are therefore ideal for a flower arrangement for the remembrance Sunday and All Souls' Day, as the graceful pine cone decorations in wonderful shades of brown are very easy to incorporate.
