The plant trough represents a particularly large form of the planter and is comparable in its basic character with a planter. As well as this, a plant trough is mainly used outdoors and is increasingly used in larger gardens; a use on the balcony and terrace is possible, but unusual. In its shape, the plant trough is based on the classic feeding trough for farm animals and therefore has an elongated shape that provides enough space for several flowers and plants. Similar to the classical planter, all garden plants can be found in a plant trough, which are dependent on a small or medium-sized space for their root system and find it in large-scale troughs. Unlike a bucket, the plant trough is not designed for regular transport and already has a solid place in its own garden due to its higher dead weight. Since the trough does not have to be mobile, it can also be completely filled with soil or granules, thus offering even more plants a suitable breeding ground over a larger area. The decision in favor of a plant trough is made by many gardening enthusiasts, above all because of the aesthetic possibility of bringing out individual plants in the home garden in a particularly stylish way, whereby the look of the trough often has a nostalgic effect.
