The iris belongs to the genus of irises and is the most popular representative of this genus in modern floristry in Germany. The iris is named after the goddess of the rainbow in Greek mythology, which indicates the great variety of colors of this flower. The type of lily itself is usually only available in one or two basic colors, but all types cover a wide range of colors, making the iris an optimal plant for use in gardens of all kinds, so as to set colorful accents according to individual preferences. The most important subspecies of the iris is the so-called beard iris, which has grown considerably in its biodiversity through targeted breeding in the past decades and is therefore difficult for professional florists to distinguish in all details and peculiarities. In today's living environment, most types of iris are offered as ornamental plants and are used in combination with various other types of flowers, but other parts of the iris can also be used in different contexts. In earlier years, the aroma of iris liqueurs and wines was added, the violet iris is valued as a special subspecies because of its floral scent and perfume is added as a natural addition. As with various types of flowers, the iris should also be carefully selected for the choice of potting soil as well as targeted fertilization.
