Hydroponics is a special variant of plant breeding, which is characterized by the absence of potting soil and other, classic nutrient media. Instead of these, an inorganic nutrient solution is used in plants of hydroponic culture, nutrient salts and similar substances provide for the supply of the respective plant. In the everyday environment, plants in hydroponics can be found mainly in expanded clay and similar granules. Although these granules are able to store water and thus nutrients, for the supply of the plant such granules play a minor role and are mainly to stabilize the root system of hydroponic plants. The nutrition itself takes place via special nutrient solutions, with which the needs of the individual plants and cultures can be individually addressed. Advantages of hydrobreeding result from the rarer need for casting, in addition, the repotting can be spared by the lower education root system in numerous cases. Not every green plant can be bred successfully as hydroponic culture, conversely, the modern horticulture could also offer many plant species as hydroponic culture, which are traditionally offered by the specialist trade with potting soil or similar nutrient media.
