The term decoration is a synonym for the decoration of rooms, people, landscapes or other elements of private and social life. Objects and designs for decoration can be found in both visual arts and crafts and ensure that, in addition to a practical function, objects bring about an aesthetic elevation and a better ambience through their design. A large part of the objects, which are set up in private rooms for the purpose of decoration, for example, have no direct, practical purpose or are merely an aid for the better presentation of other, more artistic objects such as flower vases. In some contexts the term decoration is also used synonymously with the term decor, for example in the artistic decoration of vases and other handicraft products. In addition, elements can be used for decoration that do not have a man-made decor and still provide an aesthetic increase in the ambience. An example of this is flowers or dried fruit, which in their natural form become a decoration of rooms or gardens. The whole of ornamentation, as found in classic architecture and landscaping, is also summarized under the term decoration.
