The term "drawstring" is used to describe a medium to thick rope that is woven together from different types of yarn and can perform both practical and decorative tasks. The application range also depends on the particular choice of material of a cord, whereby stable cotton as well as elegant silk can be used. The basis of a cord is already braided and verzwirntes yarn from the materials mentioned, which are twisted in their individual struts again, creating a stable and uniform end product. In principle, each cord can be considered a short rope, but the rope is rather attributed to craft or nautical, while a cord can also have a decorating character. Traditionally, the use of cords for tying garments, for example, on the robes of monks or in military uniforms, where small cords are also attached to the pure ornament. Also as a classic hat string is the cord to be found and decorates a large number of hat variants around the globe. Cords are also to be found in the floristry, where they are interlaced as pure decorative elements in wreaths, arrangements and similar, floristic products. Also for decorating bouquets and bouquets cords are suitable, but these floristic goods are not held together by a cord alone.
