The iris is occasionally found in nature in this color scheme, but has been bred specifically in the past decades in this color scheme. In many variants, which at first glance have a black appearance, it is actually a very deep violet, but this does not make any difference to the symbolic meaning of this variant. Since the blue and violet irises already express a person's feeling of being close to another person, the presentation of a deep purple or black iris strengthens this feeling. As is often the case with floral symbolism, the deeper the color of the petals, the darker the coloration of the petals, the more intense emotions and statements are, which is also true for the black iris and thus illustrates a close cohesion and deep feelings far from falling in love.
