Art Nouveau A like alpine flowers The term Art Nouveau refers to a flow of art that can be settled at the end of the 19th century or beginning of the 20th century and has its roots in Central and Northern Europe. The term designation goes back to the German cultural magazine youth, the name was, however, awarded only retroactively to this artistic trend. Even if the term suggests that it is a certain style with unambiguous criteria, the term Art Nouveau rather summarizes a variety of artistic developments that took place in Europe at the same time. Regardless of this, you can discover some of the features that are considered characteristic of Art Nouveau today. These include lush and curved ornaments, which had found their way into contemporary design in architecture as well as in the design of everyday objects. The use of floral elements for the decoration of houses, vases or garments are typical of the Art Nouveau style and are still taken over by the modern floristry in the design of decorative objects. Floral motifs, which give furniture a special ornament or are printed on cups and plates, thus always have their roots in Art Nouveau style of the last century. In historic buildings, the original Art Nouveau style can still be admired today, focusing on the South German region, the Halle-Leipzig region and Berlin.
