As Strohrömer the basis of wreaths is called, in common parlance has also prevailed the simple name Romans. Straw is still the most important ingredient in the majority of wreaths in the field of funeral floristry or on other positive occasions, as straw is produced in large quantities as a by-product of the grain industry. For a chanter, dozens of long straws are gathered together and tied at regular intervals, creating the striking, circular shape. In its original form, the chanter is already used for decorative purposes, eg at harvest festivals, where it can be finally decorated with crops, flowers and other decorative items. As a wreath in the mourning floristry, however, it is undesirable that the bright and natural look of the straw appears from the Romans, which is why this is wrapped in a wreath ribbon before further decoration. This is kept in a more neutral green or black and offers a more visually appealing shape to decorate the Strohrömer then with branches, roots, flowers and other elements. Anyone who has a knowledge of floral tying is, in principle, able to produce their own straw osmosis, but the prices for these foundations of floral arrangements and wreaths have become very affordable in recent decades and make their own production superfluous.
