The pouring rim is a component of numerous flowerpots and planters, but can also be found on foundations made of floral foam. In its original purpose, the pouring rim serves to prevent the passage of water when the flowers and thus to the pollution of windowsill, balcony or terrace. Visually recognizable is the pouring margin by a few centimeters of comprehensive supernatant, which can be found at the top of flower pots and vessels and is recommended to the lower edge of a filling with soil or granules. By adhering to this limit, a comprehensive supply of the respective plant can be done with water, without this over the edge of the planet occurs. Even if the shape of the foam is offered with a pouring rim, here the additional margin does not fulfill the originally intended purpose. In most basic forms, the foam is higher than the pouring edge, so that is a protective function in the irrigation is not given. The pouring edge in this case provides more for a small gap between edge and floral foam and thus contributes to the fact that the foam base can be watered in a simple manner. Florists regularly refill water over the pouring rim, which is absorbed by the floral foam and the plants as needed.
