In the field of artistic design and decoration, the positive model designates the shape of objects, as they are after a successful industrial manufacturing in the specialized trade. Therefore, the positive model is the actual commodity, the term especially makes sense in the delimitation of the term negative model, which can be used as a casting or printing form for the object. If, for example, a decorative figure made of clay or plaster is produced for the garden, the manufacturer develops a prototype of this object, which could already be set up in a single copy. In order to reproduce this industrially again and again, a negative model of the object is created, for example, a basic shape of the article is made of latex, which acts like a three-dimensional photo negative. If this mold is filled with plaster or other materials in the next step of the production, a copy of the prototype that is ready for sale is created. In this case, the basis was converted back into a positive model as a negative model. Negative and positive models can thus be created in the private sphere, one of the best-known forms is the preparation of the human face seen as a positive model.
